Edinboro University
Established in 1857, Edinboro University of Pennsylvania offers over 100 degree programs and 57 minors with an enrollment totaling more than 7,300 graduate and undergraduate students.
With ongoing identification and wayfinding needs at its three Pennsylvania based campus locations (Edinboro (main), Erie, and Meadville), Edinboro University has been a long standing PRIME sign program customer.
In effort to reconnect with its Scottish heritage and simultaneously create an updated contemporary brand identity, Edinboro University of Pennsylvania approached Howard Industries PRIME Sign Program with a new radical main identification signage design.
The University wished to incorporate a plaid tartan graphic, modern backlit aluminum “waves” and channel letters, along with a front lit channel logo into a dynamic aesthetically pleasing pylon sign. Both main campus and The Porecco Campus (Erie) were to receive the new main identification signs.
Having over 85 years of experience in the signage industry, Howard Industries' PRIME Sign Program successfully completed the custom pylon signs within a timeframe of just a few weeks. The custom fabricated back pan was covered in a solvent inkjet printed plaid graphic, while the aluminum “waves” were routed and backed with acrylic along with the black 5” deep letters; LED modules enabled both sets of elements to produce a backlit halo of bright white light. The LED front lit channel logo also had a solvent inkjet printed graphic applied directly to its translucent acrylic face. The power supplies for the LEDs were housed in a raceway located behind one of the 4” steel posts for convenient maintenance access. In addition, as a PA COSTARS member, Edinboro University was able to receive a discount on the signage through Howard Industries PRIME Sign Program's PA Department of General Services Contract.
